This play by Dale Wasserman, based on Ken Kesey's novel, is told from
the perspective of a half-Indian named Chief Bromden, relating his
experiences in an Oregon mental hospital. His disturbed mind reveals a
deeper truth: far from being a place of healing, the hospital is a place
of fear. Randall McMurphy, a new patient, leads a group of inmates on
the ward to rebel against the repressive Nurse Ratched, who has defeated
past troublemakers with electro-shock therapy, or with lobotomies,
making patients docile members of society at the expense of their
individuality.
