Resident in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, since April, 1996, Ed started out in British Regional Theatre as an actor before turning to directing. He was Associate Director of the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, and then Artistic Director for six years of The Belgrade Theatre in Coventry where he re-inaugurated an annual production of The Coventry Mystery Plays as an open-air event in the ruins of the old cathedral. Subsequently as a freelance for CBC TV (Toronto), he won an ACTRA Award for Gentle Sinners, his TV screenplay from the novel by W.D. Valgardsen, and during a stint with BBC Radio (London) he won a Sony Award for Dear Miss Pym, Dear Mr Larkin. His numerous BBC credits include Never Walk Alone (the first drama on the BBC's newest national network, Radio 5 Live!), and A Quick Killing In The City, a thriller set in London's financial district. As co-artistic director of Willpower Theatre he devised and directed Shakespeare Unplugged, wrote and directed The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, adapted and directed Love On Main (from Schnitzler's Reigen) and The Afterlife Of George Cartwright (from the novel by John Steffler). At Halifax's Neptune Theatre recently Ed directed Travels With My Aunt and Closer. He has written two radio drama serials, Daddy's Home and Now You See Her for CBC Radio 1 and the documentary film script, The Prince And The Grail which had a special presentation at the Atlantic Film Festival 2000 and was broadcast on Vision TV. His latest production for Willpower is Private Views, a sequence of plays presented in Halifax at the Art Gallery Of Nova Scotia.
